August Kids

Radford school children from families in need receive vouchers to purchase new school clothing for the beginning of school, giving them a sense of well being and confidence.

Who is eligible?

The student must be

  • a Radford resident
  • enrolled in the Radford City Schools (K-12)
  • eligible for and enrolled in the free lunch program

How can I receive a voucher for August Kids?

Vouchers for 2014 were distributed August 5, so it is not possible to participate in the program in 2014. For next year, ensure that your K-12 children are enrolled in the Radford City School lunch program. If they qualify for free lunches, you will receive a letter and application in the mail in July 2015.

How "big" is this project?

Typically, the project serves over 200 students with the help of many volunteers and generous contributors!

How can I help?

FINANCIAL HELP IS NEEDED TO ENSURE EACH ELIGIBLE STUDENT CAN RECEIVE A VOUCHER!
Please make checks payable to Radford Clothing Bank with "August Kids" on the purpose line. Please mail contributions to

Parents:

  • Please bring your kids to ensure the coats fit!

Good used coats are provided for New River Valley K-12 students who need a winter coat. They are collected throughout the year and cleaned by Cooks Clean Center during July (Thank you, Cooks Clean Center!) and distributed in the fall.

If you have outgrown coats (especially ones suitable for school-age children or teens), we'd love to have them for our kids. Please drop them at the Clothing Bank.

Who is eligible for free coats?
